General Health

At the Pet Care Clinic of Doral, Florida, we take your pet’s health very seriously. For the protection of you and your family, our Veterinarian should see your pet at least twice a year. Dogs and cats should both be on monthly heartworm protection and tested yearly for heartworm. Yearly blood work on adult pets and twice a year complete panel blood work on geriatric pets are highly recommended.

Dentistry

During your pet’s health examination, your veterinarian will assess your pet’s teeth and dental needs. If necessary a dental cleaning should be scheduled. A Professional Dental Cleaning is a procedure done while the pet is under anesthesia. It is done to clean and if necessary, extract any loose and diseased teeth. Dogs and cats are prone to gum disease and excess tarter build-up on the teeth. Food particles and bacteria collect along the gum line forming plaque. Tarter and plaque is irritating to the gums and causes bad breath.
Don’t forget to schedule your pet’s dental cleaning! A dental cleaning is a procedure done to clean and if necessary, extract any loose and diseased teeth. Dogs and cats are prone to gum disease and excess tartar build-up on the teeth. Food particles and bacteria collect along the gum line forming plaque. If plaque is not removed minerals in the saliva combine with the plaque and form tartar/calculus. The tartar is irritating to the gums and causes an inflammation called gingivitis (reddening of the gums). It also causes bad breath!

What happens if tartar is not removed? Tartar then begins to build up under the gums and separates the gums from the teeth to form bacterial growth. This is the beginning of periodontal disease. Periodontal disease can be very painful and can lead to loose teeth, abscesses and bone infection. As bacterial growth continues to increase, the bacteria may enter the bloodstream. This can cause infection of the heart valves liver and kidneys.

Having your pet vaccinated against contagious diseases may be one of the most important things you can do for your pet.

  • Dogs should be vaccinated against: Bordetella, Coronavirus, Distemper, Parvovirus, Rabies once a year.
  • Cats should be immunized for: Feline Distemper, F.I.P., Feline Leukemia, Respiratory Viruses and Rabies.

It’s also important to protect your dog from Canine Influenza. Vaccinations are available. Please click here to learn more about the disease and how to protect your dog from it.

Call our office and schedule your pet for their yearly check up. Remember that if it’s your first time, your consultation is on us.

Emergency and Urgent Care

We have a veterinarian and personnel on duty 6 days a week who are trained and equipped to handle any urgent care your pet has. Usually an emergency team consists of at least one veterinarian and several technicians working together to save a pet’s life. Emergencies can be things such a toad poisoning, hit by car, and chocolate ingestion. If you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment do not hesitate to call or come in immediately. If possible it is best to call before coming in so that a team member can advise you on your particular emergency.

We are also available for urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening, but you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment. Our veterinarians will work to “squeeze” you in between scheduled appointments. When you arrive, our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.
